Raise the Sun

On March 11, 2011, Japan was struck by an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.9 ,leaving millions devastated.
Since then, there have been many gestures by the creative community to show their support for Japan, whether it’s by changing their profile pictures or making a poster. I wanted to do something more, and so when Threadless has launched a competition with the theme of Sunrise, promising to donate 100% of its proceeds to The American Red Cross’s Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Fund, I felt the need to support their effort.
Having come from Asia, I was extremely affected by the disaster, and being so far away, this is the little bit that I can do, with what I can do. Hopefully, with these little gestures, if done sincerely by these large organizations, can at least help alleviate the disposition of the people affected, and let them know that people are thinking of them.
The idea behind the design is to demonstrate that a collaborative effort to support Japan can help bring a new day to the nation. A great wave formed by hands, executed in traditional Japanese illustration, raises up the sun.
