Yabang Pinoy Pictogram Shirts

Filipinos are known for their ability to speak English fluently, as seen from thousands of young individuals employed at international call centers for Western companies overseas. It was however, becoming a concern for Filipino linguists and scholars that the youth are growing up not learning how to speak their own language. Yabang   Pinoy, a organization that promotes Filipino pride, asked Ace Saatchi & Saatchi to create a communication that would address this concern in a way that was effective and humorous.
Using a tongue-in-cheek interplay of English words, pictograms and phonetics, we designed shirts that, when read in succession, would sound like a broken Filipino sentence that resembled how a foreigner, or a Filipino raised in an English home would say it. This became part of a school-wide campaign encouraging Filipinos to be proud of speaking their language more fluently.
